This year, the annual Canadian Society of Zoologists conference was held in Moncton, NB - a short 1.5 hour drive from me. Given its proximity, and the fact that I had a number of friends and colleagues from UNB attending, I figured "why not?".
This was my first time attending CSZ. It was a week spent chock full with high calibre talks and having opportunities to chat with others outside of my typical lobster fishery ecology network.
While attending, I presented my (recently accepted/soon to be published) paper on forecasting fisheries recruitment of American lobster in Canada. It must have gone well as I was graciously awarded the Cas C. Lindsey Prize given by the IEE Section for the best oral student presentation within the fields of behaviour, ecology or evolution.
Thank you to CSZ for the award and while it may have been my first, it certainly won't be my last. Maybe see you at Waterloo in 2025.
