That is a wrap on my first ever International Conference and Workshop on Lobster Biology and Management (ICWL).
This was a conference I had been looking forward to attending since it's original planned date of October 2020, but I think we all know how that story ends.
I was extremely fortunate to have been awarded the Paul Kanciruk Student Award which covered my airfare, accommodations, and registration for the conference. As a Canadian student travelling to Australia, this award made a huge difference in terms of costs, and truly allowed me to make the most of my time there.
At the conference I presented two talks, "Using benthic recruitment densities as an indicator of future fisheries recruitment of American lobster in Atlantic Canada" and "Three decades of unprecedented landings and northward shifting abundances: An updated review of American lobster (Homarus americanus) landing trends in the Northwest Atlantic, 1947-2021". The first on my masters work (manuscript in review!) and the second on a little side project I have been working on (manuscript in preparation).
The conference provided me with the opportunity to chat with scientist across all field of lobster biology, ecology, and management, and truly was one for the books! Life long memories and connections were made, and already looking forward to Spain 2026!
Figured I'd share some of my favourite photos from the trip :)
